Funding is available for property owners who volunteer for conservation easements
If your property is adjacent to Back Creek or one of its feeder streams, you know how special this valley is. That’s why a “Watershed Protection Plan” has been developed to guide voluntary restoration and conservation efforts in the watershed.
The plan was developed by Green Rivers, LLC, in partnership with the WV Conservation Agency, Eastern Panhandle Conservation District, WV Division of Forestry, and others. It enables the state to offer matching funds for the Berkeley County Farmland Protection Board to buy conservation easements. Easements enable property owners to permanently — voluntarily — preserve land along streams without selling their land.
